Highlights for the Week
On January 21st at about 3:55 PM Ukiah Police responded to the 1200 block of South State Street regarding a vehicle accident. Officers learned a 1993 Lexus sedan being driven by 19 year old Jeannette Marie Long, of Ukiah, had collided with the rear end of a vehicle stopped at the intersection of Hastings Road. Witnesses reported seeing Long exit the vehicle and run across the street and into several near-by businesses. Long was then seen running onto Washington Avenue where she stopped, and returned to the scene and was contacted by officers. Long initially denied driving, and then stated she had been distracted just prior to colliding with the stopped vehicle. Long was found to be unlicensed, and displayed symptoms of recent methamphetamine and marijuana use. Long was arrested for being an unlicensed driver, drug influence, and DUI-drugs.
On Friday, January 21st, at about 10:25 PM Ukiah Police received a report of a vehicle being driven recklessly in the area of Brush Street, and the driver was believed to be intoxicated. A Ukiah Police Sergeant spotted the vehicle driving on North Orchard Avenue, turning westbound on East Perkins Street. The vehicle was seen swerving and crossing the double yellow lane dividers, and nearly collided with a curb as it turned onto Leslie Street. The suspect vehicle failed to yield to the police vehicle’s emergency lighting, and sped away with the officer in pursuit. The vehicle was seen driving into oncoming traffic, and drove through several stop signs and stoplights, eventually heading northbound on State Street from Gobbi Street. The vehicle proceeded through the downtown area at a high rate of speed, and the officer slowed his vehicle to safely navigate the downtown area before resuming the pursuit on North State Street. The suspect vehicle was involved in a collision with another vehicle near the Ford Road intersection, then entered Highway 101 fleeing northbound at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle pursuit continued off the highway and onto Lake Mendocino Drive, where the suspect vehicle continued driving on a rim after dislodging a tire. The vehicle fled onto Portlock Lane, and the suspect drove the vehicle through a wooden fence and into the Happiness Is trailer park before abandoning the vehicle on foot. The driver was seen running through the park, and was located within a few minutes hiding near a residence. The driver, 32 year old Timothy Irving Davis Jr., was found to be intoxicated as well as a wanted parolee at large. Davis was found in possession of several packages of methamphetamine with a total weight of over 10 grams, and approximately 2 pounds of marijuana and open containers of alcohol were located inside the vehicle.
Davis was arrested and booked into the County Jail for reckless evasion, hit and run, possession and transportation of methamphetamine for sale, DUI, and the parole violation. A charge of transportation of marijuana is being sought with the District Attorney’s Office. A passenger in the vehicle also fled the scene and remains unidentified.
On January 22nd at about 1:55 AM Ukiah Police responded to a residence in the 200 block of South Highland Drive regarding a domestic violence incident. Officers were told by the victim that while seated in the victim’s vehicle, 29 year old Sean Adrian Holt arrived and approached the victim. Holt yelled angrily at the victim, and removed the victim from the vehicle by the throat. Hold then slammed the victim against the vehicle multiple times, causing the vehicle’s rear window to shatter. Holt then fled in his vehicle and officers were unable to locate him. At about 3:00 AM Ukiah Police were called back to the residence, as Holt had apparently returned and kicked out the victim’s vehicle driver’s window with the victim seated inside, causing injury to the victim from flying glass. Officers spotted Holt driving from the scene and stopped him on Highway 101 near River Road. Holt was belligerent and uncooperative with officers, and had to be physically removed from the vehicle. Holt was found to have been drinking and was determined to be too intoxicated to drive. Hold was arrested for two counts of domestic violence, and DUI, and booked into the County Jail.
On January 22nd at about 9:10 PM Ukiah Police responded to the 500 block of North Bush Street regarding a hit and run traffic collision. Officers learned witnesses had observed a silver Dodge Ram pick up being driven at a high rate of speed, turn from Walnut Avenue onto North Bush Street. The vehicle was observed losing control and colliding with two parked vehicles in the area, then flee northbound on Bush Street at a high rate of speed. A Ukiah Police Sergeant located the suspect vehicle parked at a residence in the 1300 block of North Bush Street, and contacted the driver, 24 year old Jose Luis Vega Espinoza. Espinoza initially stated the suspect vehicle had been damaged while parked at a local restaurant. Espinoza then admitted he had been driving the vehicle and had collided with two parked vehicles. Espinoza was found to be unlicensed, and to have been drinking and too intoxicated to drive. Espinoza was arrested and booked into the County Jail for DUI, hit and run, and driving without a license.
On January 23rd at about 12:35 PM Ukiah Police responded to Lucky’s, at 504 East Perkins Street, regarding a shoplifting. Officers learned the suspect was observed leaving the store with a shopping cart full of groceries without paying. Two store employees observed the suspect loading the items into a vehicle, and approached the suspect. The suspect stopped loading the stolen items and entered the vehicle to flee. One of the employees was at the rear of the vehicle obtaining its license plate number when the suspect drove backwards suddenly. The suspect vehicle collided with the shopping cart, and would have struck the employee had the employee not moved. The suspect, 62 year old Alexander Larsen, was contacted at his residence in the 5400 block of Old River Road, and found in possession of the stolen items. Larsen was arrested and booked into the County Jail for burglary, theft with prior convictions, and assault with a deadly weapon. The grocery items taken consisted mainly of alcohol, pet food, and meat, and were valued at about $235.00.
On January 25th at about 12:25 PM Ukiah Police responded to a residence in the 600 block of North Orchard Avenue regarding a reported domestic violence incident. Officers found both parties at the scene, and one officer was outside with 26 year old Joseph Irick Watts, while another officer spoke with the victim inside. Officers were told Watts had insisted the victim leave work with him, and the two argued while driving in a vehicle. Watts struck the victim several times in the arm, and later at the residence threw a nearly full plastic beverage bottle at the victim’s face. While officers were speaking with the victim, Watts suddenly fled on foot and was chased by pursuing officers to a garage on Myron Street, where Watts was captured and taken into custody. Officers determined Watts had recently used methamphetamine, and that a protective order was in place protecting the victim from Watts. An emergency restraining order was subsequently obtained, restraining Watts from contacting the victim. Watts was arrested for domestic violence, violation of the protective order, drug influence, and resisting arrest, and booked into the County Jail.
On January 26th at about 1:30 AM Ukiah Police responded to the Quik Stop, at 1105 Airport Park Boulevard, regarding an intoxicated subject panhandling and harassing people in the area. Officers were then updated that a subject had brandished a knife at the intoxicated subject, and left in a vehicle. Responding officers spotted the vehicle and stopped it on Hastings Road near Commerce Boulevard. Officers found the driver, 54 year old Jay Dee Brady of Redwood Valley, in possession of a large knife and detained him. Other officers contacted witnesses at the scene, and learned 23 year old Kenneth Dale Warhurst, of Willits, had apparently been seen yelling at people in vehicles, and banging on the doors to Jack N the Box. Warhurst had apparently approached Brady, who was getting gas, two separate times, and the two became engaged in a yelling argument. Brady allegedly struck Warhurst in the forehead with the handle of a knife before driving away. Warhurst was found intoxicated with a bleeding cut on his forehead, and refused medial treatment. Warhurst was not wearing shoes and stated he had just been released from jail and was hungry. Warhurst was arrested for public intoxication and Brady for assault with a dangerous weapon. Both were booked into the County Jail.
