Highlights for the Week

On December 30th at about 12:50 PM Ukiah Police were contacted by a subject reporting to have been shot at with a BB gun. Officers learned the victim had gone to a residence in the 600 block of Willow Avenue to make a delivery, and heard an object strike the side of the residence. The victim saw the suspect, whom he did not know, near a fence, holding a pistol and shooting BB’s at him. The victim was able to dodge the shots and fled the area as the suspect continued to shoot at the victim and yell vulgarities. Police contacted 49 year old Michael David Bonacorso at his residence on Willow Avenue, who admitted to the incident. Bonacorso explained the victim was at Bonacorso’s landlord’s residence when he shot at the victim, believing he could scare his landlord and avoid a pending eviction. Bonacorso was arrested and booked into the County Jail for assault with a firearm. The BB pistol and another firearm were removed from Bonacorso’s possession.

On December 31st at about 2:20 PM Ukiah Police responded to the Wal Mart parking lot at 1155 Airport Park Boulevard regarding the report of a hit and run traffic collision and injured pedestrian. Officers learned 40 year old Jerome Eugene McMurphy had driven a motorhome into the lot, and became involved in an argument with the 48 year old male victim over money owed. McMurphy suddenly backed the vehicle while the victim was standing next to it, and the victim was struck by the rear view mirror and knocked down and under the vehicle, and was run over. McMurphy drove away in the vehicle despite being yelled at by numerous witnesses to stop. McMurphy was contacted near the Ukiah Police Department and stated he’d come to report the incident. McMurphy was arrested and booked into the County Jail for hit and run with injury. The victim suffered moderate to severe injuries to the lower body, consisting mainly of broken bones.

On January 1st at about 5:20 AM Ukiah Police responded to a residence in the 800 block of South Dora Street in response to a 911 hang up at location. Officers were contacted by the 25 year old victim who reported 27 year old Ismael Francisco Espinoza had come home intoxicated, and they became involved in an argument. Espinoza pushed the victim down twice, and then destroyed the cellular telephone the victim was using to dial 911. The victim located another phone and dialed 911, initiating police response. Espinoza was arrested for domestic battery and damaging a phone used to contact emergency services, and booked into the County Jail. An additional charge of dissuading a victim from reporting to law enforcement is being sought against Espinoza with the District Attorney’s Office.

On January 1st at about 1:25 PM Ukiah Police responded to the intersection of South State Street and Observatory Avenue regarding the report of a fight in progress. One of the suspects was reportedly chasing the other with a large hand tool. Officers contacted 36 year old Ramiro Macias, and found he had discarded a large wrench on the ground as police arrived. Police determined Macias had chased the victim while swinging the wrench at the victim. Macias stated the victim challenged Macias to fight, and Macias believed he was about to be “jumped” by the victim and others so defended himself with the tool. Macias was found to have a suspended driver’s license and to be on probation and prohibited from driving after drinking. Macias had driven to the scene, and was found to be intoxicated, and was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, DUI, driving on a suspended drivers license, violation of probation, and possession of a dangerous weapon.

The officers announced themselves and Brint and Sees began hurriedly trying to hide various items, determined to be paraphernalia used to inject heroin. A second syringe was located, and Brint and Sees were both found to be under the influence of heroin. Sees was found to possess two packages of heroin weighing over 2 grams. Brint and Sees were arrested and booked into the County Jail for possession of heroin, drug influence, and possessing drug paraphernalia. Brint was also booked for the arrest warrant.
