On Thursday, October 21st at about 1:20 PM Ukiah Police stopped a pick-up being driven by 20 year old Jorgen Christian Johnson, of Ukiah, in the 500 block of Grove Avenue. A strong odor of marijuana was detected from the tarp covered load in the pick-up’s bed. Upon further inspection the bed was found to contain multiple boxes, bags, and containers of marijuana in various stages of drying and manicure. An additional ounce of marijuana was located in the pick-up’s cab.

Johnson claimed he and his passenger, 26 year old Matthew Johnson Bichsel, of Castro Valley, had just taken the marijuana from a residence on Lockwood Drive. Johnson stated he was half invested in the growing of marijuana at that location, but that he’d had a falling out with his partner, who was currently out of town. Johnson and Bichsel had apparently taken half of the marijuana from that location, and were transporting it to Johnson’s residence.

Johnson and Bichsel were arrested for possession and transportation for sale of marijuana and criminal conspiracy, and later booked into the County Jail. The marijuana was seized and determined to total approximately 23 pounds. A search warrant was later served at a residence in the 1700 block of Lockwood Drive, where an additional 14 pounds of marijuana in various stages of processing was seized.

On Friday, October 22nd at about 1:00 AM Ukiah Police responded to a residence in the 600 block of North Orchard Avenue regarding the report of a domestic disturbance. The male subject was reportedly outside the residence attempting to kick in the front door. Upon arrival officers contacted 27 year old Ricky Lee Renick as he was walking away from the residence, and the 26 year old female victim. Officers determined there had been no violence between the two at this time, however, Renick had allegedly punched the victim in the mouth a couple of weeks earlier, causing her to receive medical treatment. Renick was found to have been drinking alcohol, and on probation and prohibited from doing so. Renick was arrested and booked into the County Jail for domestic violence and violation of probation. A restraining order was obtained preventing Renick from contacting the victim.

A search of the vehicle revealed additional items used to process marijuana, a bag containing about 1 pound of marijuana, and a separate container with about one half pound of marijuana. Also located was a large quantity of plastic kitchen bags commonly used to package and transport marijuana. It was determined the three suspects were in the area for the purpose of trimming and manicuring marijuana.
