Arrests included: 5 for drug influence and/or possessing paraphernalia, 5 warrant arrests, 5 for public intoxication, 5 for fighting on school grounds, 4 for domestic violence, 3 for possession of stolen property, 3 for violation of probation or parole, 3 for battery, 2 for possession of methamphetamine, and 1 each for; shoplifting, vandalism, theft, prowling, trespassing on school grounds, false registration, and possession of marijuana on school grounds. Probation or parole holds were placed on 6 of these arrests.
Officers investigated three traffic accidents, one injury traffic accident, and one hit and run traffic accident. Five vehicles were stored for 30 days due to the drivers being unlicensed.
Officers took reports of: 7 thefts, 6 missing persons, 4 burglaries, 3 vandalisms, 3 found property, and 1 each of; sales of marijuana, discharge of a firearm, child molestation, animal bite, child endangerment, abandoned vehicle, identity theft, and arson.
Officers assisted the Ukiah High School with their Homecoming Parade.
Highlights for the Week
On October 3rd at about 2:00 AM a Ukiah Police Officer observed a subject walking in the 200 block of East Gobbi Street holding a pumpkin. The officer suspected the subject may have stolen the pumpkin from Safeway’s outside pumpkin display, and confirmed with store employees a pumpkin had not been sold recently. In trying to relocate the subject, the officer noticed a smashed pumpkin on the ground at the corner of Marshall and Gobbi Streets. The officer located the subject, identified as 21 year old Justin Lee Mcniel, at 390 East Gobbi Street. Mcniel first stated he had just purchased the pumpkin at Safeway, then admitted he had stolen the pumpkin, intending to later smash it on the ground. Mcniel was found to be on probation, and was arrested for theft and violating his probation.
On October 3rd at about 2:50 AM Ukiah Police responded to the 200 block of Irvington Drive regarding a reported prowler. The suspect was described as wearing all black, carrying a backpack, going in and out of yards in the area. Mendocino County Sheriff's Deputies also responded to the call, and observed the suspect running on Irvington Drive towards Elm Street. The suspect was located hiding under some bushes between two residences, and was taken into custody. The suspect was identified as a 17 year old male juvenile, and found to be in possession of a backpack containing only a knife, a pair of scissors, and two empty plastic bags. The juvenile stated he was walking in the area and smelled the odor of marijuana from a backyard. The juvenile stated he went into a yard searching for growing marijuana, but denied he intended to take any. The juvenile was booked into Juvenile Hall for prowling.
On October 4th at about 9:00 AM Ukiah Police stopped a vehicle being driven by 29 year old Grant Edward Nelson, of Penngrove, on Highway 101 near Talmage Road. Officers had determined the vehicle’s registration was expired although it appeared to display a current registration tab, which was found to be fraudulent. Nelson’s driver’s license was found to be suspended, and he was arrested for driving on a suspended driver’s license and fraudulent display of registration tabs. During a search of Nelson’s vehicle a wallet belong to a female was located. Officers later determined Nelson had been with the female’s husband earlier in the morning, and borrowed the key to the husband’s vehicle, saying he needed a "jump start". It is believed Nelson removed the female’s wallet from the vehicle’s glove box at that time, and he was additionally charged with possessing stolen property.
On October 5th at about 12:30 AM Ukiah Police contacted 35 year old Richard Leon Allen in the parking lot of the Discovery Inn. Allen appeared fidgety and was talking to himself, and was found to be on probation is Shasta County. Allen was found to be under the influence of methamphetamine and arrested, and less than one gram of methamphetamine was located on Allen's person. Allen was booked into the County Jail for possessing methamphetamine, drug influence, and probation violation.
On October 5th at about 2:20 AM Ukiah Police contacted an adult male and female in the 300 block of Mason Street. Both subjects displayed symptoms of drug influence. The male, who identified himself as “Robert Whipple”, was found to possess a hypodermic syringe and a small amount of methamphetamine and was arrested. The female, identified as 25 year old Rozanne Maria Ford, was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance and was also arrested. It was later determined “Robert” was actually 42 year old Leonard Dudley Whipple, who was found to be a parolee at large and booked into the County Jail.
