Statistics
Arrests included: 8 for public intoxication, 6 for shoplifting, 4 for drug influence and/or possessing drug paraphernalia, 3 for burglary, 2 warrant arrests, and 1 each for; possession of ecstasy for sale, violation of probation, domestic violence, false identity to law enforcement, battery, stolen vehicle, and trespassing. Probation or parole holds were placed on 2 of these arrests.
Officers investigated 4 traffic collisions, and 1 death by apparent natural causes. Two vehicles were impounded for 30 days due to the drivers being unlicensed or suspended.
Officers took reports of: 7 vandalisms, 6 found property, 5 child neglect, 3 thefts, 2 threats, 2 counterfeit bills, 2 suicidal persons, 2 animal bites, and 1 each of; identity theft, fighting on school grounds, missing person, stolen vehicle, violation of parole, defiant juvenile, and possession of methamphetamine.
Officers assisted the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office in locating an armed robbery suspect, and with a trespassing call.
Highlights for the Week
On November 19th at about 2:05 AM Ukiah Police responded to a residence in the 300 block of El Rio Court regarding a stolen vehicle. The victim stated an acquaintance was suspected of taking a large amount of cash from the victim, as well as the victim’s vehicle’s keys and vehicle. While the officer was speaking with the victim, the stolen vehicle was observed approaching the residence. The vehicle then sped away and was abandoned in a nearby lot, and the suspect was not located. At about 11:15 AM Ukiah Police returned to the residence and located 38 year old Carl Joseph Cocomero, and arrested him for auto theft, grand theft, and violation of parole. Cocomero was booked into the County Jail.
On November 19th at about 5:00 PM Ukiah Police responded to the County Clinic at 333 Laws Avenue regarding an unwanted female refusing to leave. Officers contacted 22 year old Kelisha Sheree Alverez, who was behaving irately with staff, yelling profanities, and standing in such a way as to impede the egress and ingress of staff and patients. Alverez refused all requests to leave the facility and was arrested for trespassing. Hidden amongst Alverez’ clothing was a wallet belonging to someone else, which Alverez stated she found. Alverez was booked into the County Jail for trespassing and appropriation of lost property.
On November 21st at about 2:15 PM Ukiah Police responded to Safeway at 653 South State Street regarding a shoplift. Officers determined 38 year old Javier Valdes Ortiz had stolen over $100.00 in DVD’s and medicine and was detained by store employees. Ortiz was in possession of a large amount of CD’s worth around $100.00 which were found to have been stolen from Wal Mart earlier in the day. Ortiz had his 8 year old child with him during both thefts, who was released to Child Protective Services. Ortiz was arrested and booked into the County Jail for thefts with prior convictions and a separate charge of child endangerment is being sought with the District Attorney’s Office.
On November 24th at about 10:05 AM Ukiah Police responded to a residence in the 600 block of North State Street to assist Officers with the Mendocino County Probation Department. During a search of the location, a 13 year old male juvenile was found in possession of 11 ecstasy pills, which he admitted intending to sell. The juvenile was on probation, and was arrested and booked into the Juvenile Hall for possessing a controlled substance for sale, and violation of probation.
