Statistics

Arrests included: 6 for drug influence and/or possessing drug paraphernalia, 5 for violation of probation or parole, 4 for public intoxication, 3 warrant arrests, and 1 each for; domestic violence, possession of methamphetamine, vandalism, and possession of a narcotic. Probation or parole holds were placed on 1 of these arrests.

Two vehicles were impounded for 30 days due to the drivers being unlicensed or suspended.

Officers took reports of: 6 vandalisms, 4 found property, 3 thefts, 3 child neglect, 2 missing persons, and 1 each of; battery, assault with a firearm, suspicious circumstance, transportation of marijuana, suicidal person, burglary, and counterfeit bill.

Officers assisted the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office with the arrest of a wanted subject.

Highlights for the Week

On December 22nd at about 5:55 PM Ukiah Police responded to the MTA bus stop in the 1000 block of North Bush Street regarding the report of a window having been broken out of the bus stop. Police learned witnesses had observed a male subject throw a rock at the window, damaging it. Through further investigation the suspect was identified as a 16 year old male juvenile from Pittsburg, California, who was on probation in Mendocino County. On December 23rd the investigating officer spotted the juvenile suspect seated on the MTA bus stop bench on North Bush Street, near Low Gap Road. The juvenile initially denied damaging the window, than stated he had but that it was an accident. The juvenile was arrested for vandalism and violation of probation, and was found to posses a marker commonly used for “tagging”. The juvenile was additionally charged with possessing a graffiti instrument and booked into Juvenile Hall.

On December 26th at about 8:55 PM Ukiah Police stopped a vehicle in the 700 block of South State Street. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed several tablets of ecstasy which were determined to belong to the passenger and registered owner of the vehicle, 20 year old Soriah Sobbizadeh, of Santa Cruz. Sobbizadeh was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and booked into the County Jail.

On December 27th at about 9:50 AM Ukiah Police contacted 34 year old Luis Alberto Ramirez in the in the alley between the 700 block of South State Street and South Oak Street. Ramirez was on probation and parole, he was determined to be under the influence of methamphetamine, and was found to possess hydrocodone, a commonly abused narcotic prescription drug. Ramirez was arrested and booked into the County Jail for drug influence and possessing a narcotic.

On December 28th at about 10:55 PM Ukiah Police responded to the Ukiah Valley Medical Center regarding a gunshot victim at location. The 18 year old male victim was initially believed to have been shot near the hospital, and the faculty was locked down for security reasons. The victim reported he had met with a friend who had a shotgun, and the victim accidently shot himself with it while examining it. After further investigation, officers located a residence on Leslie Street where there was an active indoor marijuana grow, and where the residents stated there had been an unreported home invasion robbery. The residents reported three suspects forcefully entered the residence and demanded money, one of whom was armed with a shotgun. The gunshot victim and the robbery are believed to be related, and the case remains under investigation.
