Statistics

Arrests included: 11 for public intoxication, 4 for violation of probation or parole, 3 for shoplifting, 3 warrant arrests, 3 for drug influence and/or possessing drug paraphernalia, 2 for battery on school property, 2 for possessing an illegal or dangerous weapon, and 1 each for: domestic violence, possession of a switchblade knife, possession of cocaine, threats, and resisting arrest. Probation or parole holds were placed on three of these arrests.

Officers investigated 1 hit and run / DUI traffic collision. Six vehicles were impounded for 30 days due to the drivers being unlicensed or suspended.

Officers took reports of: 4 found property, 3 thefts, 3 battery, 2 child neglect/abuse, and 1 each of; counterfeit bill, violation of court order, stolen vehicle, domestic violence, vandalism, and animal bite.

Officers assisted the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office with a stabbing investigation and the Richmond Police Department with the recovery of a stolen vehicle.

Highlights for the Week

On February 6th at about 3:10 PM Ukiah Police responded to Rainbow Ag at 235 East Perkins Street, regarding the theft of a chain saw. Officers learned store employees observed a male subject exit the store with a $450.00 chainsaw, partially concealed under a garbage bag, without purchasing the saw. When employees tried to contact the subject, he fled onto the railroad tracks and headed south. An employee soon located the suspect hiding still in possession of the stolen chainsaw. The suspect dropped the saw and ran away. After viewing the store surveillance video, officers identified the suspect as 49 year old Mark Steven Piver, of Kelseyville. On February 14th Ukiah Police Detectives went to Piver’s residence to contact him pursuant to this investigation. Piver initially fled the residence, but soon contacted Lake County Law Enforcement and agreed to meet with Ukiah Police Detectives. Piver was subsequently arrested and booked into the Mendocino County Jail for burglary and theft with prior convictions.

On February 9th at about 4:30 PM Ukiah Police were notified of a vehicle being driven erratically on Highway 101 between Willits and Ukiah. Officers located and stopped the vehicle in the 300 block of East Perkins Street, and identified the driver as 37 year old Heather Anne Britton, of Laytonville. Also in the vehicle was Britton’s 1 year old child. Britton was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance, and was arrested. Located inside the vehicle were several syringes and other items used to inject illegal drugs. Britton was additionally charged with possessing drug paraphernalia and child endangerment, and her child was released to the care of Child Protective Services.

On February 10th at about 8:55 PM Ukiah Police stopped a vehicle being driven by 49 year old Jose Buenrostro Vazquez in the 600 block of North State Street. Vazquez had been drinking, and was determined to be too intoxicated to drive. Vazquez was unlicensed, and was found in possession of less than a gram of cocaine. Vazquez was arrested for DUI, driving without a license, and possession of cocaine.

On February 13th at about 1:05 AM Ukiah Police responded to the Forest Club at 239 North State Street regarding a patron making threats. Officers learned 26 year old Jonathan R. Viayra had been drinking inside the bar, and was “cut off” due to his level of intoxication. Viayra became angry and threatened to stab and kill the bartender. Viayra was contacted at the rear of the bar and was found to be extremely intoxicated, and was arrested. Viayra had a lock-blade knife in his pocket which was locked in the open position. Viayra was booked into the County Jail for public intoxication, criminal threats, and possession of an illegal weapon.

On February 13th at about 4:30 PM Ukiah Police stopped a vehicle being driving by 24 year old Sylvester Keith Marek in the 100 block of West Smith Street. Marek’s drivers license was suspended, and he was found in possession of a small baton, that when pulled apart became two knives. Marek was arrested and booked into the County Jail for driving on a suspended driver’s license and possessing an illegal weapon.

On February 16th at about 8:40 AM Ukiah Police responded to 737 South State Street for a dispute between two male subjects. Officers learned the caller had been approached by 30 year old Craig Matthew Eisenberg, who asked the caller for a cigarette. Upon being told no, Eisenberg became irate and began yelling at the caller and his girlfriend, threatening to fight. An officer located Eisenberg walking in the 200 block of East Gobbi Street, and he refused all commands to stop. The officer took hold of Eisenberg’s arm, and he tried to pull away then used his free hand to try and release the officer’s grasp. Eisenberg was taken into custody after a brief struggle, and refused to walk to the patrol car on his own. Eisenberg remained belligerent and uncooperative with the officer, and was booked into the County Jail for resisting arrest.

On February 16th at about 7:05 PM Ukiah Police received a report of hit and run traffic collision, occurring in the 700 block of South Oak Street. The suspect vehicle had been traveling north when it collided with a parked vehicle, which in turn was pushed into another parked vehicle. A witness had observed the collision, and followed the suspect vehicle, which now had front end damage, until losing sight of it near Scott Street. An officer soon spotted the suspect vehicle traveling the wrong way on West Smith Street, which is a one way street. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, which eventually yielded in the 400 block of West Smith Street. The driver was identified as 30 year old David Vincent Bologna, who had been drinking. Bologna was found to be too intoxicated to drive and was arrested. Bologna had a switchblade knife in his pants pocket, and he was booked into the County Jail for DUI, hit and run, and for possessing a switchblade. Bologna’s passenger, 24 year old Kristin Natasha Schmith, was also intoxicated and was arrested and booked into the County Jail for public intoxication.
