Highlights for the Week

On January 27th at about 3:15 PM Ukiah Police responded to Kohl’s at 437 North Orchard Avenue, regarding a shoplifting. Police were told 23 year old Ellen Margaret Miller had been detained by a store employee, after being observed concealing clothing and jewelry worth almost $300.00, and leaving the store without paying. Miller had apparently also been observed earlier in the month stealing approximately $200.00 worth of clothing and jewelry, but store employees were not able to detain her at that time. Miller was determined to be on probation in Sonoma County, and was arrested for two counts of theft from a merchant and probation violation.

On January 27th at about 3:20 PM Ukiah Police responded to the 900 block of Waugh Lane regarding an assault. Police learned the incident had occurred in the business park at 417 Talmage Road, where the two victims had been remodeling an office. One of the victims contacted 23 year old Alberto Vincent Acosta and requested Acosta stop skateboarding in the parking lot. Acosta refused multiple requests to stop skateboarding and leave, and eventually picked up his skateboard and began swinging it at the victim nearly striking him. The second victim approached to help, and Acosta swung his skateboard at him and nearly struck him as well. Acosta swung at the first victim again, spit on him, then fled. The two victims followed Acosta to the Waugh Lane area until officers arrived. Acosta was arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon and booked into the County Jail.

On January 30th at about 1:40 PM Ukiah Police contacted 26 year old Jesenia Christina Maria Ramos in the 300 block of East Gobbi Street, pursuant to an outstanding warrant for her arrest. Ramos tried to hand her purse to her companion, and refused commands to submit to arrest. Ramos physically resisted by pushing against the officer, and was eventually arrested for the warrants and for resisting arrest. A search of Ramos’ purse revealed a methamphetamine smoking pipe, and Ramos was found to have recently used methamphetamine. Ramos was booked into the County Jail for the warrants, resisting arrest, drug influence, and possessing drug paraphernalia.

On February 1st at about 7:00 PM Ukiah Police responded to the 900 block of East Perkins Street regarding a traffic collision. Officers found a 2007 Toyota Tacoma pick-up had left the roadway, and crashed into the corner of an apartment complex. Officers contacted the vehicle’s driver, 24 year old Pavel S Chebotko, and a witness at the scene. The witness reported seeing the vehicle being driven at a high rate of speed on West Perkins Street, and fail to negotiate a turn onto Hope Street. The witness observed Chebotko trying to drive the vehicle away from the collision scene, then hide his wallet in the vehicle’s bed. Chebotko was transported from the scene by medical personnel due to his injuries, and reportedly became belligerent and physically assaultive towards them. Chebotko was determined to have been intoxicated at the time of collision, and was eventually arrested and booked into the County Jail for DUI.
