Arrests included: 8 for public intoxication, 8 warrant arrests, 5 for drug influence and/or possessing drug paraphernalia, 5 for vandalism, 4 for possessing marijuana for sale, 4 for possessing methamphetamine for sale, 2 for burglary, and 1 each for; violation of probation or parole, possession of marijuana, robbery, false identity to law enforcement, indecent exposure, child molestation, and possessing stolen property. Probation or parole holds were placed on 4 of these arrests.
Officers investigated 3 traffic collisions. Two vehicles were impounded for 30 days due to the drivers being suspended or unlicensed.
Officers took reports of: 6 thefts, 5 found property, 4 abandoned vehicles, 2 missing persons, 2 child neglect, and 1 each of; domestic violence, suicidal subject, vandalism, sales of marijuana, brandishing a weapon, violation of court order, assault with a dangerous weapon, rape, arson, and injured animal.
Officers assisted the Mendocino Major Crimes Task Force with several narcotics related investigations, the Detective Bureau with the service of a search warrant, and the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office with locating a wanted subject.
Highlights for the Week
On May 14th at about 1:55 AM Ukiah Police responded to the 100 block of North School Street regarding two subjects seen jumping onto the hood of a parked vehicle. Officers located the suspects walking on Perkins Street near Hortense Street, and identified them as 31 year old Aaron Jacob Kooyers and 32 year old Jason Edward Manning, both of Ukiah. Kooyers and Manning had been drinking, and were identified by the victim who had seen the subjects jump onto the hood of the victim’s parked car numerous times, causing damage. Kooyers and Manning were arrested for vandalism and criminal conspiracy, and Manning was additionally charged with violating his probation, and both were booked into the County Jail.
On May 14th at about 2:40 AM Ukiah Police responded to a residence in the 500 block of South Main Street regarding an intoxicated subject who had damaged a fence. Officers were told the resident had answered a knock on the door, and encountered 21 year old Joshua Jordan Keys, who was intoxicated and asked for a subject unknown to the victim. Keys sat down on the front steps, and then proceeded to the backyard fence where he kicked and removed boards until he could enter the yard. Keys was found sleeping on the patio furniture, and was found to be heavily intoxicated. Keys was arrested for vandalism and public intoxication and booked into the County Jail.
On May 14th at about 7:50 PM Ukiah Police responded to the Oak Manor School area at 400 Oak Manor Drive, regarding juveniles seen drinking alcohol. Officers located two of the juveniles on Kings Court near the pedestrian bridge, and identified them as a 16 year old male juvenile and a 14 female juvenile. Both juveniles had been recently released from Juvenile Hall after having been arrested near Oak Manor School on May 7th pursuant to the investigation related to a bicycle that had been forcefully taken from a young victim. The stolen bicycle in that case was later turned in to the Ukiah Police Department and returned to the victim. Both juveniles on this night were found to have been drinking and were intoxicated, and were arrested and booked into Juvenile Hall for public intoxication.
On May 17th at about 1:20 AM Ukiah Police responded to the Express Mart at 390 East Gobbi Street regarding a robbery. Officers learned a customer had approached the counter to purchase some items, then jumped over the counter and began kicking and hitting the clerk demanding he open the cash register. The suspect then grabbed several bottles of alcohol and ran out of the store with the clerk running after him. Officers searched the area in which the suspect was seen running, and located 26 year old Jonathan Robert Viayra laying in a driveway in the 700 Cindee Drive. The stolen alcohol, valued at about $130.00, and some discarded clothing was found nearby, and Viayra was found to have been drinking. The clerk identified Viayra as the suspect, and he was arrested for robbery. Viayra was on probation and additionally charged with violating that probation, and was booked into the County Jail.
On May 17th at about 10:45 AM Ukiah Police responded to the Comfort Inn and Suites at 1220 Airport Park Boulevard regarding the smell of marijuana emitting from a room. Officers contacted 34 year old Timothy Truman Curtis, of Covelo, an occupant of the room smelling of marijuana. Curtis admitted possessing marijuana, and over 20 pounds of marijuana and a large amount of US Currency was located inside the room. While officers were in the room, 26 year old Kevin Jones of Chicago Illinois arrived to meet with Curtis. Jones denied being in the area to purchase marijuana, although he possessed a large amount of US Currency, and multiple bags commonly used to package and transport marijuana was located inside his vehicle. While officers were in the parking lot they contacted 26 year old Ryan Schroeder, of LaCrosse Wisconsin, and 24 year old Jacob Lee Malmin, of LaCrescent Minnesota, seated in a vehicle. Malmin and Schroeder were found to be associated with Jones, and a large amount of US Currency and additional bags were located inside their vehicle. It appeared Jones, Schroeder, and Malmin had arrived from out of state to purchase a large amount of marijuana from Curtis, and were prepared to transport this marijuana a long distance. Curtis, Jones, Schroeder, and Malmin were arrested for possessing or intending to purchase marijuana for sale, and criminal conspiracy, and booked into the County Jail. Over $100,000.00 in US Currency was seized along with over 20 pounds of marijuana, and various items used to package and transport marijuana, pursuant to this investigation.
On May 18th at about 1:05 AM Ukiah Police stopped a vehicle being driven by 52 year old Kathy Irene Genet, of Ukiah, in the 100 block of North Orchard Avenue. Genet displayed symptoms of drug influence, and a search of her vehicle revealed several packages of methamphetamine in varying weights, a methamphetamine smoking pipe, and several tablets of a commonly abused prescription narcotic. The total weight of the methamphetamine was found to be over 10 grams. Genet was arrested and booked into the County Jail for possessing and transporting methamphetamine for sale, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possessing a narcotic.
On May 18th at about 8:00 AM the Ukiah Police School Resource Officer began an investigation into the theft of multiple cellular telephones and audio devices from several PE lockers. It was determined the day prior, a 16 year old male juvenile student waited until the locker room was vacated for class, and used hand tools taken from home to enter various lockers and removed an assortment of electronic devices. His companion, a 17 year old male juvenile student, acted as a lookout and assisted in hiding some of the stolen items. Many of the devices were located and returned to their owners. Both students were arrested for burglary, grand theft, possessing stolen property, possessing burglary tools, and criminal conspiracy, and booked into Juvenile Hall.
On May 18th at about 1:05 PM Ukiah Police responded to the MTA bus stop in the 200 block of North Orchard Avenue, regarding a male adult dressed in womens’ clothing exposing himself. Officers located 56 year old Lee Hazen Williamson, who was wearing a dress and a wig, and on parole. A witness relayed seeing Williamson raise his dress and expose his genitals to an MTA buses occupants. Williamson was arrested for indecent exposure and violating his parole, and booked into the County Jail.
On May 19th at about 2:25 AM Ukiah Police responded to the Quickstop at 1105 Airport Park Boulevard regarding a driver passed out behind the wheel of a car at the gas pumps. Officers observed 22 year old Samuel Adam Morris asleep in his vehicle, with a half-eaten hamburger in his hand. After several attempts to awaken Morris, he exited the vehicle and was found to be intoxicated. Several prescription pills were found in Morris’ possession, and he was suspected of taking them along with alcohol. Morris was arrested for DUI and possessing prescription medication, and booked into the County Jail.
