Statistics

Arrests included: 6 for violating probation or parole, 5 for drug influence and/or possessing drug paraphernalia, 4 for resisting arrest, 4 for domestic violence, 3 for public intoxication, 2 for burglary, 2 for stolen vehicle, 1 each for; warrant arrest, possessing methamphetamine while armed, possession of concentrated cannabis, possession of methamphetamine, possessing stolen property, and vandalism. Probation or parole holds were placed on 3 of these arrests.

Officers investigated 1 hit and run traffic collision, 1 injury hit and run traffic collision, one traffic collision, and 3 deaths. Two vehicles were impounded for 30 days due to the drivers being suspended or unlicensed.

Officers took reports of: 7 found property, 3 vandalisms, 2 burglaries, 2 thefts, 2 domestic violence, 2 missing persons, and 1 each of; robbery and resisting arrest.

Highlights for the Week

On May 27th at about 1:35 AM Ukiah Police contacted 36 year old James Ray, of Ukiah, in the alley in the 700 block of South State Street. Ray was near closed businesses and was wearing dark clothing and gloves. Ray was found to have 2 warrants for his arrest, and was taken into custody. Ray had a loaded 9mm pistol concealed in his clothing, and two packages of methamphetamine and a methamphetamine smoking pipe were located inside his pants pocket. Ray had also been using methamphetamine recently, and he was booked into the County Jail for possessing a controlled substance while armed, possessing a loaded fireman while under the influence of a controlled substance, possessing a loaded and concealed firearm, possessing methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, and the arrest warrants. An additional charge of possessing a firearm in the commission of a felony is being sought with the District Attorney’s Office.

On May 27th at about 11:00 AM a Ukiah Police Officer was flagged down in the 100 block of South Orchard Avenue, and advised by the victim that 49 year old Michael David Bonacorso had just violated a restraining order by coming to the victim’s house and trying to enter. Within ten minutes the officer located Bonacorso in the 1100 block of South State Street, who admitted to violating the order. Bonacorso displayed symptoms of recent drug use, and as the officer began to place Bonacorso into custody he tried to pull away from the officer. Bonacorso began to fight with the officer, pulling his arm away and forcefully removing the officer’s radio from his uniform. Bonacorso ripped a radio away from a second officer as well, and continued fighting and struggling until being taken into custody after being tased. One of the officers received a minor injury, and both officers’ uniforms were damaged during the struggle. Bonacorso was booked into the County Jail for drug influence, resisting arrest, and violation of a domestic violence restraining order.

On May 27th at about 11:40 PM Ukiah Police observed a 17 year old male juvenile in the 1200 block of North State Street. The juvenile was pouring alcohol from a larger bottle into a smaller one, and dropped the larger bottle and ran upon seeing the police. The juvenile ran to the rear area of a near-by business, and was climbing a fence to elude the pursuing officer. As the juvenile reached the top of the fence, he fell head first to the other side and was knocked unconscious upon hitting the ground. The juvenile eventually regained consciousness and was transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure. The juvenile was intoxicated, and was found to be on probation and prohibited from drinking. The juvenile had been released from Juvenile Hall the day prior. The juvenile was booked into Juvenile Hall for resisting arrest, violating probation, and possession of alcohol by a minor.

On May 29th at about 7:00 PM Ukiah Police responded to Nokomis School at 495 Washington Avenue for a report of juveniles smoking marijuana at the location. The responding officer approached a male juvenile seen on school grounds, and the juvenile fled running around a corner. The officer heard bottles being dropped and additional suspects running away, and upon rounding the corner gave chase to 4 juveniles. The officer pursued the suspects into the creek bed and eventually caught three of them; a 13 year old and two 15 year old male juveniles. It was determined the suspects had dropped a large bottle of vodka and several devices used to smoke marijuana. One of the 15 year olds had been drinking and was charged with possessing alcohol by a minor. All subjects were booked into Juvenile Hall for resisting arrest.

On May 30th at about 4:40 PM Ukiah Police stopped a bicyclist in the 500 block of Ford Street, later identified as 50 year old Andrew Gordon Finnie. Finnie was uncooperative with the investigating officer, and displayed symptoms of drug influence. As Finnie was being taken into custody he began pulling away from the two officers, attempting to free his hands and flee. Finnie was taken to the ground where he continued to struggle and try to free himself, and was eventually taken into custody after being sprayed with pepper spray. Finnie had almost a gram of methamphetamine in his pocket, and was booked into the County Jail for possessing methamphetamine and resisting arrest.

On May 31st at about 1:50 AM Ukiah Police responded to a room at the Days Inn, at 950 North State Street, regarding a domestic violence incident. Upon arrival officers could see inside the room, and saw the victim cowering in a corner of the room with her hands over her head, and a male standing over her and yelling at her. The male, identified as 35 year old Mario Hermosillo of Cloverdale, was immediately detained. The victim was found to have visible injuries to her face and arms, and was bleeding slightly from her mouth. Hermosillo had been drinking, and he was arrested and booked into the County Jail for domestic violence.

On May 31st at about 6:40 PM Ukiah Police responded to Alex Thomas Plaza at 300 South State Street, regarding a subject damaging a tree. The suspect was observed carving into a small tree with a pocket knife, which he immediately placed into his pocket upon seeing the officer. There was large lettering carved deep into the tree and the suspect, identified as 28 year old Marco Frederick Moon, was arrested for vandalism. The damage to the tree was severe, and the cost to replace it was later determined to be significant.

On June 1st at about 12:30 AM Ukiah Police located a vehicle previously reported stolen to the California Highway Patrol, driving in the 1200 block of Helen Avenue. The driver, later identified as 26 year old Lawrence Manuel Allen Ortiz, suddenly stopped the vehicle and exited, walking away from the vehicle, and was immediately taken into custody. The passenger, 19 year old Jeanette Marie Long, was also taken into custody. A methamphetamine smoking pipe was located inside the vehicle. Ortiz and Long were arrested for possessing a stolen vehicle, and Ortiz was additionally charged with possessing drug paraphernalia.
