Statistics

Arrests included: 14 for public intoxication, 5 for violating probation or parole, 2 for shoplifting, 2 warrant arrests, 2 for domestic violence, 2 for resisting arrest, 2 for drug influence and/or possessing drug paraphernalia, 2 for assaulting nursing staff, and 1 each for; possession of a narcotic, possessing marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, burglary, possessing stolen property, vandalism, and possession of a dangerous weapon. Probation or parole holds were placed on 2 of these arrests.

Three vehicles were impounded for 30 days due to the driver being suspended or unlicensed.

Officers took reports of: 9 found property, 6 vandalisms, 4 domestic violence, 3 thefts, 3 animal bite, 3 suicidal subject, 3 burglaries, 2 transportation of marijuana, 2 fraud, and 1 each of; identity theft, missing person, robbery, battery, counterfeit bill, and rape.

Highlights for the Week

On June 10th at about 11:10 AM Ukiah Police responded to a residence in the 1100 block of Mulberry Street regarding stolen medication. The victim suspected a house guest had stolen numerous prescription medications from the medicine cabinet over the night. Officers contacted 20 year old Travis Steven Mendoza, of Ukiah, who was in possession of a large number and variety of prescription medication taken from the victim. Mendoza was arrested and booked into the County Jail for illegally possessing prescription medication and possessing stolen property.

On June 10th at about 10:00 PM Ukiah Police Officers were on foot patrolling the area around the pedestrian overcrossing connecting Kings Court to the Oak Manor area, due to recent vandalism and gang activity in this vicinity. Officers encountered 21 year old Gabriel Manuel Hernandez, of Talmage, who was known to the officers as a gang member. Hernandez possessed scissors in his pants pocket, and a kitchen knife inside his backpack, both of which could easily be fashioned as stabbing weapons. Hernandez was arrested and booked into the County Jail for possessing dangerous weapons and violating his probation, and an additional charge of participating in a criminal street gang is being sought with the District Attorney’s Office.

On June 11th at about 8:10 PM Ukiah Police stopped a vehicle being driven by 18 year old Jose Luis Lopez, of Boonville, in the 100 block of Hastings Road. Lopez displayed symptoms of drug influence, and a methamphetamine smoking pipe and less than a gram of methamphetamine was located inside his vehicle. Lopez had never been issued a drivers license, and was arrested and booked into the County Jail for possessing and transporting methamphetamine, possessing drug paraphernalia, drug influence, and driving without a license.

On June 11th at about 7:30 PM Ukiah Police contacted two intoxicated female adults near Standley and Barnes Streets, one of whom was identified as 27 year old Cory Cristin Garman, of Ukiah. The subjects stated they were waiting for a ride, and soon 28 year old Daryn Andrew Wheeler, of Petaluma, arrived and stopped his vehicle in the street. Garman and her companion got into Wheeler’s vehicle, and the officer noticed one of them had left behind a pair of sunglasses. The officer brought the sunglasses to Wheeler, and noticed he had been drinking. The officer determined Wheeler was intoxicated and he was arrested for DUI. Garman was found to be on probation and prohibited from drinking, and was also arrested. Garman had several tablets containing hydrocodone, a commonly abused prescription narcotic, in her possession, and was additionally charged with possessing a narcotic.

On June 11th at about 10:30 PM Ukiah Police responded to the Ukiah Valley Medical Center for a subject causing a disturbance and refusing to leave. Officers learned 70 year old Hector Estrada had been treated and discharged from the Emergency Room, but continued to return and refused to leave the property. When a nurse opened an exterior gate for Estrada he hit the nurse in the chest. Estrada was placed under citizen’s arrest for battery upon medical personnel and booked into the County Jail. On June 14th at about 8:45 PM Ukiah Police were called to the Ukiah Valley Medical Center for an identical situation involving Estrada. Estrada had apparently slapped a cell phone out of the hand of a nurse, and when the nurse bent down to retrieve it, Estrada stuck the nurse on the head. Estrada was again placed under citizen’s arrest for battery upon medical personnel and booked into the County Jail.

On June 13th at about 12:30 AM Ukiah Police received a Be On the LookOut (BOLO) from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office for a vehicle that fled Jensen’s Restaurant on Lovers lane after the occupants failed to pay their bill. Ukiah Police Officers located and stopped the vehicle in the 600 block of East Perkins Street. The 16 year old male juvenile driver had been drinking, and was found too intoxicated to drive and arrested for DUI. The two 17 year old male juvenile passengers were released to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office regarding the theft from Jensen’s Restaurant, and also an earlier reported theft of beer from Calpella. The driver was booked into Juvenile Hall for DUI.

On June 13th at about 4:15 AM the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office requested the Ukiah Police Department assist a Sheriff’s Lieutenant with an unwanted subject on Orr Springs Road.

On June 13th at about 12:20 PM Ukiah Police responded to the Home Depot at 350 North Orchard Avenue, regarding the victim of assault with a metal pipe and two suspects that had fled the scene. Emergency medical personnel and Ukiah Police Detectives and administrative staff responded to search the area due to the severity of the reported assault. The 13 year old male victim was being treated by EMT’s, and officers learned a Home Depot employee had observed two male juveniles dragging the nearly unconscious victim through the lot, and that they fled the scene upon learning the police had been called. The victim was unresponsive and began vomiting, but mentioned to the employee he had had been hit with a pipe. The victim was later found to not have been assaulted but extremely intoxicated, and it was later determined he had also been smoking marijuana. The juvenile was treated at the Ukiah Valley Medical Center for intoxication, and later booked into Juvenile Hall for public intoxication.
