Highlights for the Week

On July 10th at about 5:50 AM Ukiah Police responded to the area of the 800 block of South Oak Street regarding an interrupted vehicle burglary. A resident reported hearing loud noises from the area of several parked vehicles, and upon checking found a subject inside his vehicle. When confronted the subject ran away northbound. While responding, police officers found a resident of an apartment complex in the 700 block of South Oak Street, who reported hearing glass breaking in the area. The resident joined police in checking vehicles parked in the complex for damage, when an officer heard glass breaking from the adjoining complex. The officer was able to observe a subject entering the passenger door of a parked vehicle, and saw the window had been broken out. The officer confronted the suspect, later identified as 19 year old Jordan Quinn Cassenova Nunez, as he was attempting to remove a door mounted stereo speaker from the vehicle. Nunez responded by kicking the officer from inside the vehicle, then struck the officer’s hands away and tried to flee. The officer was able to get Nunez to the ground, and Nunez again kicked the officer and continued to fight despite being tased, and was eventually restrained until other officers arrived and helped place Nunez into custody.
Nunez was found in possession of several hand tools, as well as various items believed to have been taken from several other vehicles broken into in the area. The original caller identified Nunez as the subject he’d seen inside his vehicle. Police learned a residence in the 800 block of South Oak Street had also been burglarized, wherein a television and clothing were taken. Police determined the victim awoke to find the suspect in the bedroom, and yelled at the suspect to leave. Nunez was identified as the suspect and responsible for this break-in as well. The stolen items were recovered in the area. The Ukiah Police Detective Division was called out and responded to the scene, and continued to work this investigation throughout the weekend. Nunez was charged with several counts of burglary and theft, as well as battery on a police officer and resisting arrest, and was booked into the County Jail. Police believe Nunez may be connected to the series of recent vehicle and residential burglaries occurring in the area, and continue to investigate this case. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Police Department at 463-6262.
