Statistics

Arrests included: 15 for public intoxication,
4 for shoplifting,
4 warrant arrests,
3 for drug influence and/or possessing drug paraphernalia,
3 for violation of probation or parole,
2 each for false identity to a police officer, domestic violence, possession of marijuana for sale, possession of inhalants, and
1 each for possessing an illegal weapon, animal cruelty, battery upon a police officer, battery, and child endangerment.
Probation or parole holds were placed on 4 of these arrests.

Officers investigated 3 traffic accidents, 1 hit and run traffic accident, and 1 injury traffic accident, and took reports of; 2 thefts, 2 found property, 2 vandalisms, and 1 each of; missing person, domestic violence, animal bite, violation of court order, prowling, violation of probation, battery, and child molestation. Three vehicles were held for 30 days due to the drivers being unlicensed.

Officers assisted the Ukiah Fire Department with a structure fire, the California Highway Patrol with traffic control during an accident investigation, and Child Protective Services with a child endangerment investigation.

Highlights for the Week

On August 7th at about 8:55 PM Ukiah Police stopped a vehicle being driven by 38 year old Shannon Lee Henry, in the 100 bock of Brush Street. Henry was found to have been drinking alcohol, and was arrested for driving while intoxicated. Henry’s 8 year old child was a passenger in the vehicle and Henry was additionally charged with child endangerment as well as DUI.

On August 12th at about 2:00 PM Ukiah Police received a report of a vehicle being driven recklessly in the area of Willow and Spring Streets. The vehicle had reportedly weaved into the oncoming lanes numerous times, and was last seen stopped at an intersection blocking traffic for an extended period of time. Police located the vehicle in the 300 block of North Dora Street, and contacted the driver, 49 year old Kelly Rene Grams, of Hopland. Grams was found to be intoxicated and was arrested for DUI, and booked into the County Jail.

On August 13th at about 8:15 AM Ukiah Police responded to a residence in the 900 block of North Oak Street regarding reported animal cruelty. Officers determined the resident was seen shooting a pellet or BB gun at a squirrel in a tree, striking it, causing the squirrel to fall from the tree. The suspect had apparently been witnessed shooting squirrels in the past. Officers also learned a neighbor’s dog had previously become ill after eating one of the dead squirrels. Officers were able to see a tree in the suspect’s yard, at the base of which were a decomposed squirrel, a recently deceased squirrel, and an injured squirrel shuffling in the bushes. Officers contacted 65 year old Terrill Lee Sizemore, who initially denied shooting squirrels. After further investigation Sizemore admitted having shot squirrels in his tree, claiming the squirrels interfere with the harvest of his walnuts. Sizemore was arrested for animal cruelty, and his weapon was taken. The injured squirrel had to be euthanized.

On August 14th at about 1:20 AM Ukiah Police responded to 500 Oak Manor Drive, Oak Manor Park, regarding the report of a woman screaming. Police contacted 20 year old Ethan Tyler Bauer, and 20 year old Jessica Ann Stephens, in the park. Bauer had minor injuries to his face, and police determined Stephens had punched Bauer in the face and bit him in the upper torso. Bauer was found to be on probation and under the influence of methamphetamine, and was eventually arrested for violating probation and drug influence.

While speaking to an officer Stephens displayed symptoms of methamphetamine influence, and whispered that people were out to get her, and that everybody was trying kill everybody. Stephens suddenly screamed and punched the officer in the face. Stephens was taken to the ground where she continued to resist and fight with the officer, and was eventually taken into custody. A search of Stephens’ person revealed a methamphetamine smoking pipe hidden in her clothing. Stephens was arrested for domestic violence, battery upon a police officer, drug influence, and possessing drug paraphernalia. Both Bauer and Stephens were booked into the County Jail.

On August 14th at about 9:10 AM Ukiah Police met with a 32 year old female at the Ukiah Police Department, who had arrived to conduct a child custody exchange in the parking lot. The female claimed the child’s father was in violation of the court ordered visitation agreement which prohibited the father from taking custody of the child if the father had been drinking. The female requested officers evaluate the child’s father for intoxication. The female went to the parking lot to meet officers, and then returned crying claiming the child’s father’s mother, had just slapped her. Police met with all parties and determined 58 year old Suzanne Slocinski had slapped the female following an argument. Slocinski was placed under citizen’s arrest for battery, and booked and later released with a citation.

On August 14th at about 7:30 PM Ukiah Police received a report of a reckless vehicle in the area of the 700 block of North State Street. Police then received additional reports of the same vehicle being driven erratically in the area of the 500 block of South State Street. Police located the vehicle parked in the area, and its occupants seated in a yard nearby. Police contacted a witness who observed the vehicle being driven and saw the three occupants exit the vehicle. The witness identified 22 year old Joshua Ernest Goodnough as having driven the vehicle on State Street in an erratic manner, swerving from lane to lane, than park on the sidewalk. The witness saw Joshua exit the drivers door of the vehicle, and saw 25 year old Jonathan Walter Goodnough exit the passenger door, reenter the drivers door, and move the vehicle off the sidewalk and park it legally. Police contacted Joshua and Jonathan Goodnough, who had both been drinking heavily and were intoxicated. While speaking with Jonathan, Joshua began displaying a medical need and an ambulance responded for Joshua. Jonathan was found too intoxicated to drive and was arrested for DUI. Joshua was being tended to by Ukiah Fire Department Paramedics when he used the back of his hand to slap a paramedic in the face. Joshua was transported to the Ukiah Valley Medical Center, and was also found to be too intoxicated to drive and was arrested for DUI. Jonathan’s driver’s license was found to be suspended, and he was booked into the County Jail for DUI and driving on a suspended driver’s license. Joshua was later booked into the County Jail for DUI and battery on a paramedic.

On August 14th at about 9:00 PM Ukiah Police responded to the 700 block of East Perkins Street regarding the report of a U-Haul truck seen leaving Burger King with children locked in the rear compartment. Police located and stopped the vehicle in the 400 block of South State Street and contacted the driver, 37 year old Sandra Lariza Gonzalez. Police found Gonzalez’ 20 year old son in the rear storage area, along with a 13, a 14, and a 16 year old male, who were apparently “neighbor kids” helping Gonzalez move. The rear compartment could only be opened from the outside, and there were no safety restraints. Gonzalez’ driver’s license was found to be suspended, and she was arrested for child endangerment and driving on a suspended driver’s license.

On August 17th at about 1:00 AM Ukiah Police responded to the church at 604 Jones Street, regarding the report of two suspicious subjects observed with balloons and possibly abusing drugs. As the officer arrived he observed two subjects run away and followed them run around the church until they stopped near the southwest corner. The two subjects were identified as 20 year old Coleton Carl Mummert, and 20 year old Colton Randy Honnold. Both subjects were found to have been drinking alcohol, and located in the area were several full and empty beer cans. Also located were numerous empty as well as unused “Whip-It” nitrous oxide containers, numerous balloons, and a device used to extract the nitrous oxide gas from the “Whip-It” containers. Mummert and Honnold were arrested and booked into the County Jail for possessing an inhalant, resisting arrest, and minors in possession of alcohol. Honnold was found to be on probation and additionally charged with violating probation.

On August 17th at about 11:20 PM Ukiah Police contacted two occupants of a vehicle parked along Airport Road. Police identified 37 year old Priest Rogelio Martinez who was found to be a parolee at large, and was arrested. The remaining occupant, 18 year old Jeannette Marie Long, was found to possess hydrocodone tablets without a prescription, and was also arrested. A search of the vehicle revealed a methamphetamine smoking pipe, several other tablets suspects of being Percocet and oxcycodone, all typically abused prescription narcotics. Also located within the vehicle was approximately 2 pounds of marijuana. Martinez was booked into the County Jail for possessing and transporting marijuana for sale, possessing narcotics, possessing drug paraphernalia, criminal conspiracy, and violating parole. Long was booked into the County Jail for possessing and transporting marijuana for sale, possessing narcotics, possessing drug paraphernalia, and criminal conspiracy.
