Statistics
Arrests included:, 10 warrant arrests, 9 for drug influence and/or possessing drug paraphernalia, 5 for public intoxication, 4 for domestic violence, 4 for violation of probation or parole, 2 for failure to register as a sex offender, and 1 each for; resisting arrest, possession of narcotics, child endangerment, burglary, possessing marijuana on school grounds, and sexual assault. Probation or parole holds were placed on 4 of these arrests.
Officers investigated 2 traffic accidents and 1 death by suicide. Officers took reports of;7 thefts, 4 suicidal persons, 3 found property, 2 child endangerment, 2 animal bites, 2 sales of marijuana, 2 burglaries, and 1 each of; missing person, fighting on school grounds, suspicious circumstances, violation of a restraining order, domestic violence, and vandalism. One vehicle was held for 30 days due to the driver being unlicensed.
Officers assisted the Mendocino Major Crimes Task Force with a narcotics investigation, and the Detective Division with service of a search warrant.
Highlights for the Week
On August 19th at about 9:00 PM Ukiah Police stopped a vehicle in the 1200 block of North State Street. Two of the passengers were found to be on probation, and a third to be on parole. Eric Michael Roberts, 23 years old of Ukiah, was determined to have been drinking alcohol, violating his probation, and was arrested. Roberts was also found to be under the influence of methamphetamine. Ryan Alvin Cranford, 23 years old of Redwood Valley, was found to be under the influence of methamphetamine and in possession of a codeine tablet without a prescription, and was arrested. Daniel Escamilla, 39 years old of Ukiah, was found to be on parole. Escamilla and 22 year old Alicia Marie Gallups of Ukiah, were also found to be under the influence of a controlled substance and arrested.
On August 20th at about 9:20 PM Ukiah Police responded to the 200 block of Norton Street regarding a domestic violence incident. Officers contacted the 21 female victim, who reported her boyfriend, 22 year old Javier Ryan Garcia, had chased her and tried to hit her. The victim explained she was on the sidewalk when Garcia approached her, and demanded she “get inside”. Garcia tried to grab the victim by the throat, then tried to punch her in the head as she ran away. The victim then retreated into a residence. Officers determined a restraining order existed between Garcia and the victim, and that Garcia had been drinking alcohol in violation of his probation. Garcia was arrested and booked into the County Jail.
On August 22nd at about 1:00 AM Ukiah Police stopped a vehicle being driven by 44 year old John Wolfgang Winter, in the 100 block of Luce Avenue. Winter displayed symptoms of drug influence, and was found to possess several different types of prescription medication, one being morphine. Winter was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs, possession of a narcotic, and driving unlicensed.
On August 22nd at about 1:20 PM Ukiah Police initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle being driven in the 1600 block of South Dora Street. The vehicle initially slowed as if to stop, then continued driving along Dora Street. The vehicle then stopped near the Thompson Avenue intersection, and the passenger jumped out of the vehicle and ran along Thompson Avenue. The passenger ignored commands to stop and ran into several yards and jumped several fences with the officer in foot pursuit. The passenger was captured in a yard on Poulos Court, and identified as 22 year old Jorge Abel Martinez. Martinez was found to be on parole and had apparently cut his ankle monitoring bracelet that morning.
The driver of the vehicle had left the scene but was soon located by Mendocino County Sheriff’s Deputies in the 100 block of Tedford Avenue. The driver, 18 year old Joann Gladis Jimenez, was found to be unlicensed, and in possession of prescription medication, including hydrocodone, a controlled narcotic. Jimenez was arrested for driving without a license, and possessing prescription medication and possessing narcotics. Martinez was arrested for resisting arrest and violating parole. Both were booked into the County Jail.
On August 22nd at about 7:35 PM Ukiah Police contacted 29 year old Christopher Ray Poe, of Point Arena, in the 800 block of South Oak Street. Poe was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance and arrested. Poe was also found to be out of compliance with his requirement to register as a sex offender, and was booked into the County Jail.
On August 24th at about 12:40 AM Ukiah Police contacted 33 year old Brandy Lee Schleper near a closed business at 217 East Gobbi Srteet. Schleper was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance, and was arrested. Officers learned Schleper had left her 5 and 11 year old children home alone at her residence on Waugh Lane, while she walked to the store to buy cigarettes. Officers located both children home alone and asleep, and were in the child’s bedroom when they heard someone enter the apartment. Officers located 25 year old Anthony Christopher Rojas hiding in a closet. Rojas was found to have a warrant for his arrest, and to have been drinking in violation of his probation. Rojas was arrested for the warrant and probation violation. Schleper was additionally charged with child endangerment and both were booked into the County Jail.
On August 25th at about 2:55 PM Ukiah Police responded to a report of a shoplifter from Safeway that had fled to the Sun House Park. Officers located the suspect, 38 year old John Dalkin, in the Sun House Park, and found him in possession of various food items and alcohol from Safeway. Dalkin stated he had purchased the items for $7.00, but had no receipt and was in possession of more than $7.00 of merchandise. Dalkin eventually admitted he had stolen the items. A Safeway store employee identified Dalkin had been seen placing the items into his backpack and leave the store without paying. Dalkin was arrested and found in possession of a folding knife resembling a switchblade. Dalkin was booked into the County Jail for burglary and possessing a switchblade. The stolen items were found to be just over $40.00 in value.
