Highlights for the Week
On September 23rd at about 2:00 AM Ukiah Police responded to a residence in the 700 block of Myron Place regarding a reported burglary in-progress. Callers in the area reported numerous suspects involved, some running from the scene and others being physically restrained, and that a firearm had possibly been discharged. Upon arrival officers observed a male suspect fleeing the scene on foot, and detained him in about the 400 block of Ford Street. The 46 year old male subject displayed serious facial injuries and an ambulance was immediately summoned to the scene.
The male subject stated he was from Dublin, California, and had come to the Ukiah area to steal marijuana. The subject stated he and some local associates had been at the residence on Myron Place and were stealing marijuana plants from the backyard when confronted by the residents. The male stated he had been beaten with a stick, and had gotten away and was fleeing the scene when stopped by the officers. The male subject was transported to the Ukiah Valley Medical Center, and later to a hospital in Santa Rosa due to the seriousness of his injuries.
Officers contacted the residents on Myron Place, and determined they had discovered numerous subjects stealing their marijuana plants from the backyard, and confronted them. Officers were told the residents apparently captured one or more of the intruders in the backyard, and were holding them when the others suspects returned and began throwing rocks and pieces of concrete at the residents, demanding they release the intruders. A firearm was not located at the scene and it was not established with certainty a firearm was discharged, but it is suspected one of the returning suspects may have fired a gun to intimidate the residents into releasing the suspect(s).
Officers located growing marijuana plants in the backyard, in violation of the city ordinance which prohibits the growing of marijuana outdoors within city limits. Some of the plants had been stripped, and several bags containing marijuana stalks and bud were located, apparently discarded by the thieves when fleeing the scene. The remaining marijuana plants were seized and removed by officers.
The Ukiah Police Department’s Detective Bureau assumed the investigation and learned the male subject from Dublin had gone into a coma, and remained so until September 29th. An interview with the subject is planned for the near future. The residents responsible for growing the marijuana as well as witnesses and neighbors have been interviewed. The remaining intruders remain unidentified although several local residents are believed to be involved. The case remains under investigation and the force used by the residents is being examined, and will be reviewed by the District Attorney’s Office.
On September 27th at about 2:55 AM Ukiah Police stopped a vehicle being driven by 28 year old Uriel Cornejo Palacios, of Geyserville, in the 1100 block of South State Street. Palacios was found to be on probation and under the influence of a controlled substance, and arrested. A baggie containing methamphetamine was located inside Palacios’ pants pocket, and another baggie of methamphetamine was located secreted inside the vehicle. Palacios admitted he planned to deliver one of the baggies of drugs to someone in Sonoma County. Palacios was booked into the County Jail for possession and transportation of methamphetamine, drug influence, and violation of probation.
On September 28th at about 2:15 PM the Ukiah Police School Resource Officer was investigating an altercation between a 15 year old and 16 year old male subject, on campus at Ukiah High School. Campus supervisors had located 4 canisters of nitrous oxide, and paraphernalia used to inhale the nitrous oxide, inside the 15 year old’s backpack. The 15 year old male juvenile was cited for possession of inhalants.
On September 30th at about 12:15 AM Ukiah Police observed a bicyclist in the 200 block of West Mill Street, and stopped the bicyclist on Jones Street for traffic violations. The bicyclist, 30 year old Todd Allen Jurrens, was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance, and in possession of a methamphetamine smoking pipe. Police determined Jurrens had discarded a hypodermic syringe between Mill and Jones Streets, and subsequently recovered the discarded syringe. Jurrens was arrested and booked into the County Jail for drug influence, possession of drug paraphernalia, and concealing evidence.
